INVITATION TO VIEW

Invitation to View has been opening houses and gardens to the public since 1998. This year, 55 properties open their doors to visitors in eastern England (six new), covering seven counties with Bedfordshire joining the scheme for the first time. Even more exciting is that ITV has broken out of eastern England to start the same scheme in the West Country, with 23 houses (nine new) opening under the same organisation in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset.

What is unique about the scheme is that individuals (as opposed to groups, who are also welcome) can visit private houses, many of which are rarely open, and be shown round, usually by the owners. The aim is to treat visitors as personal guests and they are able to see more than the traditional guided tours with rope barriers and officious rules.

Visitors can see the properties by booking through the Mercury Theatre in Colchester (01206 573948) or on-line at www.mercurytheatre.co.uk. Groups wishing to book on a date not listed in the calendar should ring Pat Jacobs (01284 827087) or email invitation2view@aol.com.

To book, you can either call the Mercury Theatre on 01206 573948
or book on-line at www.mercurytheatre.co.uk.

BOOKING CONDITIONS

Bookings can only be confirmed when full payment has been received. For security, we will need your name and address and a contact telephone number. Please give a mobile number if possible in case the tour is cancelled at the last minute (eg. due to illness). Because these properties are old and fragile, unfortunately we cannot include children under 14. If you have to cancel your visit, please give a minimum of five working days’ notice. You will be offered a credit to be used at a later date or you can exchange your tickets for another tour within the same calendar year. Occasionally tours may be cancelled if visitor numbers are too low, in which case a full refund will be given. Photography is only allowed with permission of the owners.
