Chippenham Park

The magnificent house and garden lie within a 350-acre walled park. The central part of the house is early 18th century and was bought in 1791 by John Tharp. It was greatly enlarged in 1895 with an extra floor being added and the wings extended. The house is full of fascinating objects collected over 200 years. The gardens, covering 15 acres, include an arboretum and kitchen garden. They are dotted with sculptures, many contemporary, and there are several canals, crossed by a Chinese-style bridge and flanked by ornamental trees and shrubs. Snowdrops, spring, summer garden and autumn colour got two stars in Good Garden Guide.
