Chippenham Park

The 350-acre park is enclosed by a three and a half mile wall built in 1696. The central part of the house is early 18th century and was bought in 1791 by John Tharp. It was greatly enlarged in 1895 with an extra floor being added and the wings extended. The property came to Anne Crawley, the present owner, through her Tharp grandmother. The gardens, covering 15 acres, have been lovingly created by Mrs Crawley over the last 15 years and include an arboretum and kitchen garden. They are dotted with sculptures, many contemporary, and there are several canals, crossed by a Chinese-style bridge and flanked by ornamental trees and shrubs. Good Gardens Guide with star.
