The Emplins, a C15 hall house, grade II*, has mediaeval wall paintings and a linenfold panelled wall. The oldest part is thought to be early C14 but the main build was in 1477. Restored by the present owners, it stands in a two-thirds acre garden designed by them. They are keen gardeners and plantsmen.
Tour two to two and a half hours, £13 including tea, coffee, soft drinks, home-made sandwiches, scones and cakes. Accommodation. www.smoothhound.co.uk
