Layer Marney Tower



Grade I red-brick Tudor gatehouse, decorated with impressive Italianate terracotta. Intended to rival Hampton Court, with tallest Tudor gatehouse. Built by Henry, First Lord Marney, Henry VIII’s Lord Privy Seal. Effigies of Henry, First Lord Marney and his son, John, in church altered to match the house.
Tour approx 2-2½hours, £14 including tea/coffee, cakes and biscuits.
