Mannington Hall



Medieval moated and crenellated hall with two polygonal towers built for the Lumner family in 1451. They inherited from the Tyrells. In 1736, it was sold to Hon Horatio Walpole (see Wolterton) brother of Sir Robert Walpole.
Extended mid 19th century. Present family home since 1969. Gardens feature classic roses, trees, shrubs and wild flowers. Lake and wheelchair accessible walkway across wet flower meadow. Recently planted sensory garden with plants selected for touch, sound, taste and smell. Gardens also include Heritage Rose Garden with roses in appropriate period settings. House, not usually open, contains eclectic collections from all times.
Tour one and a half hours, £12 including tea or coffee with cakes and biscuits. Optional light lunch £10.
