St. John's Manor



Farm mentioned Domesday but house rebuilt by Sir Thomas Gresham between 1570-1580 using timber from the Commandery of the Knights of St John (hence the name). Order was formed 1113 and disbanded by Henry VIII. The Battisford Knights were recorded in 1154 and artefacts remain in the house.
Tour 2 hours, £13, including tea, coffee or local apple juice with biscuits (am), cakes (pm). Openings include tour of moat or talk on the Order of St John.
