Warner Textile Archive

Located in the heart of Braintree, Essex, the Warner Textile Archive is the country’s second largest collection of flat textiles, and narrates the rich history of a great British industry from its roots in the late eighteenth century to the international success of Warner & Sons in the twentieth century. The collection contains nearly 100,000 textile and wallpaper samples, paper designs, documents and other industry records representing two centuries of creativity and commerce.
The Archive is situated in the original mid-nineteenth century mill buildings, where visitors can explore a selection of over a hundred textiles and designs in the permanent exhibition gallery. Changing temporary displays in the entrance gallery expand the range of items on view.
The Archive Store is also accessible for pre-booked visitors, who will receive a tour focused on the designs, designers and different fabric types produced on-site, along with a talk on the history of Warner & Sons.
At the Warner Textile Archive Shop visitors can choose from a colourful selection of jewellery, scarves, books and cards.
Tour one and a half to two hours, £13.50 including gallery talk, visit to Archive store and tea or coffee with biscuits and home-made cakes. www.warnertextilearchive.co.uk
