Coombe Trenchard

Enjoy a leisurely afternoon accompanied by Sarah Marsh, the owner of Coombe Trenchard, who will share her passion for restoring these beautiful Edwardian gardens. Your guided tour will then take you into Coombe Trenchard, a fine example of an Arts & Crafts country house.
The house and gardens were designed in 1906 by architect Walter Sarel with terraces, garden buildings, paths and bridges. The house retains many original Arts & Crafts features including a unique ‘disappearing’ wall, recently discovered in the main hall. Still a work in progress, forgotten paths, woodland garden, water gardens and the pattern of long forgotten Edwardian planting schemes are being discovered and restored. The house and gardens lie in the heart of West Devon with views extending towards Dartmoor. There will be the opportunity after tea to join in a game of croquet on the games lawn, weather permitting, or just to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the gardens.
Tour 2½ hours, £16 including a welcoming glass of summer punch on arrival and a traditional Devonshire tea, including home-made scones with cream and jam, sandwiches and cakes, served on the south-facing terrace after the tour. Accommodation.
