Belle Grove, Westhall, Suffolk
Extraordinary, memorable house, overall winner of the Daily Telegraph Building Awards 2011. ‘Out of a fairy tale,’ said one of the judges, spying a 20-foot fierce metal dragon poised on the chimney. Built by Nick Fisher with his wife Jo Jordan using reclaimed local materials and straw bales with exotic additions. Tree trunk staircase and sedum roof. Something to interest everyone, from build process to rich interiors and owners’ collections.

Despite expecting something rather special we were not prepared for the fantastic Belle Grove. Thank you for allowing us to share your amazing achievement, I can’t stop talking about it.
From Halesworth head 2 miles north on the A144 toward Bungay / Norwich. Turn right at the Spexhall Crossroads to Westhall. Follow narrow road for a mile or so. Belle Grove Farm is on the left immediately before a railway bridge over the road. Turn in here and follow signs. (Sat Navs do not necessarily bring you directly here).
