The Swan, Lavenham, Suffolk
The historic 15th century Swan at Lavenham, is located within the best preserved medieval village in England. During World War II, British and American servicemen were stationed at RAF Lavenham; many of whom frequented The Swan.
Over 1,000 signatures adorn the walls of the Airmen’s Bar at The Swan and there is an extensive collection of military memorabilia to view there too. Hear about those wartime years at this tour and talk focused on the famous Airmen’s Bar.

Arrive at 9.30 am for tea, coffee and biscuits, followed by a presentation about The Swan at Lavenham’s Second World War history. Afterwards, there will be a private guided tour of the Airmen’s Bar, which is full of military memorabilia and over 1,000 signatures, many dating back to the Second World War.

I found it very interesting. You are clearly very enthusiastic about the subject matter and it must have taken you quite a while to pull it all together. The food was also excellent, staff were friendly & efficient … Just had to let you know how much we enjoyed our tour of The Swan today. We have dined there often, but had no idea it was so extensive.
Lavenham is situated on the A1141, about 2 miles east of the A134, between Sudbury and Bury St. Edmunds. From the A14, exit at J44 and follow the signs to Sudbury A134 and then follow signs to Lavenham A1141. Free parking is available throughout the village. Located within walking distance, there is a large free car park, opposite Lavenham Church.
Lavenham is on the bus route from Bury St. Edmunds to Sudbury.

Dogs are welcome at The Swan, but for these special group tours of the hotel, we will only accept registered Guide Dogs. Because our properties are old and fragile, unfortunately we cannot include children under 14.
Whilst our main restaurants do have wheelchair access, the tour of the hotel, is not suitable for wheelchair users.
